What the six years look like
Medicine in Bulgaria is a full-time six-year M.D. program combining scientific foundations with progressive clinical training, and culminating in a one-year supervised internship.
Building the scientific foundation
Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, histology, embryology, and medical biophysics. Heavy laboratory and dissection work. The groundwork on which all clinical knowledge is built.
Bridging science and practice
Pathology, microbiology, pharmacology, and the first clinical subjects — internal medicine, surgery, and patient examination. Students begin hospital observation and seminars.
Active participation in patient care
Supervised rotations across major hospital departments — internal medicine, surgery, gynaecology, paediatrics, emergency medicine, psychiatry, and elective specialties.
Direct clinical responsibility
A full-year supervised internship where students take on real clinical duties under faculty supervision. This year bridges the degree and professional practice.
